A €340,000 support scheme aimed at assisting pig farmers affected by restrictions linked to foot and mouth disease has been approved by the council of ministers, the agriculture ministry said on Monday.
According to the ministry, the scheme will provide direct financial assistance of up to €54 per pig sent to slaughter, with a maximum payment of €50,000 per beneficiary.
The funding will come from the department of agriculture’s budget.
